Trelya has launched a ground-breaking new project that could change the way children’s services are delivered in the UK.
We are delighted to be the first international affiliate of Friends of the Children.
Friends of the Children is a pioneering mentoring programme based on the principle that even the most hard to reach children can become healthy productive adults with the help of a positive, consistent, caring adult in their lives. This programme has had and continues to have huge success in the USA. The Realising Ambition project will be replicating the Friends Of The Children model of work.
The model is about providing intensive, community-based, long term support to the most at risk children – with the same workers supporting the same children, week after week, year after year. Each child has their own personal, dedicated project worker who will work with them at home, at school, on the streets and at our centre, building a long term, trusting relationship.
Realising Ambition will help our most vulnerable children make better choices, achieve at school, communicate better and understand their emotions, improve their health and wellbeing, learn skills and make plans for the future.
Trelya’s Realising Ambition Project is one of 25 UK projects making up the high profile National Realising Ambition portfolio, a five year initiative to identify the best models and interventions to divert young people away from pathways to offending. The national programme is managed by a consortium of organisations, led by Catch 22 and including The Young Foundation and The Social Research Unit at Dartington.
