Skyla
Skyla - Cornish for opportunity
‘Skyla’ is the Cornish word for ‘opportunity’ and provides activities primarily on Friday and Saturday nights for 13-19 year olds.
The Skyla project offers diversionary activities for young people who may otherwise be involved in unhealthy or risky behaviour.
The activities on offer include sports, arts, drama, cooking and media workshops. The sessions act as a vehicle to develop young people’s personal and social skills, giving opportunities for them to explore issues they may face in their day to day lives.
For example, a rap or lyric writing workshop focusing on the implications of alcohol misuse.
The Skyla project is funded by the Youth Sector Development Fund from the Department for Education. The funding for this project runs out at the end of March 2011.
