If you come to work at Trelya you will be part of a friendly team of 10 people ( full-time, part- time, self - employed tutors, community artists, sports workers and youth workers). You will have the opportunity to develop pieces of work and projects with children and young people according to your interests and skills. A lot of the work is arts or sports/outdoor adventure based, and you may find yourself involved with surf sessions, photography sessions etc. Often we work with children and young people over a long period of time this enables very good relationships to develop and for in depth work to take place particularly with regard to personal and social skills development and supporting individuals in areas such as housing, chaotic lifestyles etc

A lot of the work is arts or sports/outdoor adventure based, and you may find yourself involved with surf sessions, photography sessions etc. Often we work with children and young people over a long period of time this enables very good relationships to develop and for in depth work to take place particularly with regard to personal and social skills development and supporting individuals in areas such as housing, chaotic lifestyles etc. Trelya operates from an excellent building base that includes an IT room, arts room, dark room, sports room and social and music room. Trelya has a vast array of resources including stilts, unicycles, skateboarding equipment, wetsuits, sports equipment, music equipment ( including digital recording equipment ), film making equipment (including an editing suite) and other extensive arts resources. These resources, together with our building base and our minibus ensure we can deliver a range of activities at very short notice with the minimum of amount of hassle thereby responding to the needs and requests of children and young people swiftly. You will have access to an excellent training and support package. In addition to the usual youth work related training, opportunities exist to train in such diverse areas as beach lifeguarding, Arts Award trainers, NVQ assessors, digital music recording, surf instructing etc. Training packages are developed according to staff's interests and training needs. Trelya recognises that you will have other interests in your life in addition to your commitment and passion for youth work - therefore Trelya is committed to offering extremely flexible working conditions - this includes opportunities to take short or medium term unpaid leave and irregular working patterns for those who want them.
What you will need to work at Trelya
An energetic enthusiastic approach to working with children and young people at risk of social exclusion. Bags of initiative. An ability to motivate and engage uninterested children and young people. Experience of dealing with challenging behaviour effectively and creatively. Ability to work with children and young people on their territory in groups that are their peer groups. Ability to get on well with people and excellent interpersonal skills. A willingness to work evenings, weekends and school holidays. Experience of delivering personal and social skills training in a flexible and interesting way. An understanding of the issues related to social exclusion. |
